As production has already resumed all around the United States and the world, California governor Gavin Newsom hosted a Zoom roundtable with Californians who work in the film and television industry, regarding resuming productions. It started late but, once it got going, streamed live on the governor’s YouTube page.

“We’re in realtime drafting guidelines” for specific sectors, including the entertainment industry, said the governor.

Those guidelines will be released on Monday and will allow some counties to move deeper into the governor’s four-phase plan for reopening. Newsom made clear that this includes film and TV production. But it will not likely include Los Angeles.

“It remains a challenging part of the state for us still,” Newsom admitted, referring to L.A.

COVID-19-related deaths in L.A. County continue to rise with 1,324 new confirmed cases and 57 new fatalities announced today. That brings the total cases and deaths in the region to over 40,850 and 1,970 respectively.

Newsom said that counties will be able to self-attest to the fact that they meet the criteria and “begin moving, and your industry can begin to reopen.” He said approximately 53 of California’s 58 counties that would be able to so attest, but it would be up to each individual county to decide to do so. Again, he indicated that L.A. County would not be among them.
